seems like the issue was a wrong login sso password being entered in sql server. Once I corrected the sso login password for the database in sql, the vcenter service started fine.

At least this worked in my situation.

Thanks

Is Virtual Center setup in Simple mode so all the roles are on 1 server, or is the roles split out between different servers?

Also is your database connection to vCenter working currectly and nothing has changed there? AKA password expired, account expired ect?

This is also SSO 5.5 correct?

Also check your hosts file to make sure nothing has been edited in there for your loopback address:

So SSO 5.1 had a database as well.  Can you connect to that database in the DNS page in ODBC connections fine?

where can i login as admin@system-domain?

Does vcenter web services and vcenter server service needs to be started before I can login as this user?

Try login on vSphere Web Client... the SSO and Web Client services must be running.

I'm talking about the VMware vSphere Web Client service, not the VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices that like you already know, depends of VMware VirtualCenter Server.

If your SSO password has expired, you will get a error message as in this KB

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=203586...
