cannot load lvmdriver error on install of ESXi 4 on a XP pro 64-bit SP2 machine

I get following error on installing ESXi from the boot cd: 'cannot load lvmdriver' (after it went through the installation process the program does't load).

Can't ESXi be installed on a XP pro 64-bit SP2 machine (wih Virtualisation Technology enabled in the BIOS)? What are the requirements for the hostsystem hardware and OS?

I want to use it for a productionenvironent,

In this case you have to install ESXi on a bare metal system.

And the system must be in HCL if you want to use for production (just to be sure that all can work):

Thanks, I found somewhere else on that site you refer to that ESX is supposed to run without an OS as opposed to VMWare Server.

Does that mean I cannot install it on a machine with XP installed or only that it would make sense?

Why do I get this error message?

But what program are you using? Workstation, VMware Server 1, VMware Server 2?

I want to use it for a productionenvironent, not within another virtual environment. I guess installing it within a virtual server is only for testing / trial purposes?

That being said, I am running VMWare Server 2 since a few days (getting to know it), installed on this XP machine. And now i was told I should probably want ESXi instead of Server 2 for what I want to do: run two servers, one with SBS 2008 and another one with SQL 2005 and CRM 4, however all just for me, no workload issues. The machine has a 4x2,4 Intel CU and 8 Gb RAM.

Thread moved to ESXi 4 forum.

Just realize that if you install ESXi on your computer, you cannot use that same computer to manage itself. You MUST use a second networked PC to run the client to manage your ESXi Server, create virtual machines, and run them.
