you are trying to connect to the host using host name or using IP??

If DNS name try checking whether the dns name is getting resolved or if its IP try ping and check whether its successful or not?

Also is the host or vcenter behind any firewall??

first make sure you are able to ping the host from the VC ....then you will be able to join host to VC..

Hello!

If you can't ping the host through the DNS name you should check the dns server host records.

But anyways you can join esx to VC by ip adress. Is it a fresh esx install?

Have you tried rebooting it?

if you can ping the host by ip address and cannot join it by ip address maybe management services stopped on the host.

Can you connect to the esx host using vsphere client directly?
