Hi,
I have recently installed a vcenter version 4. It does come with SQL server 2005 for free. I would like to backup my data base. Can I use 2008 Mangement Studio Express to backup the data base? Here is the link I am talking about:

Thanks
Usually I install the Management Studio in the same edition as the database. However, I'm almost 100% sure that a newer Management Studio supports older databases.

Since the free SQL Express edition does not include the SQL-Agent, you can only do manual backups in the GUI. However there are several web sites which describe how to automate backups for this edition. see e.g. http://www.sqldbatips.com/showarticle.asp?ID=27

Manual backup is OK for me, I do not make too many changes to the database. But it is safe to install the 2008 Management application on the server which has 2005 SQL installed.

HI, Maybe Data Migration Tool can help with this migration.
