ESXi version: 5.1.0, 1483297
vShpere Client version: 5.1.0, 1471691
recently added a few extra linux VMs to test, linuxmint 17.2 & 17.3 x64 versions.
i went here, https://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/index.html to download an iso and then got stumped as to which one in the 5.1.x versions is the correct one for me.
also, does vSphere care whether i install vmware-tools or open-vm-tools ?
could i get some advice as to which one please. tia
Hi
looking to this KB: VMware KB: Correlating VMware product build numbers to update levels seems that your esxi version is nearest to
ESXi 5.1 Update 2 | 2014-01-16 | 1483097 | N/A |
then suggest to download 5.1u2.. I don't know if there are any drawbacks installing a newer version...
About open-vm-tools: enables operating system vendors and/or communities and virtual appliance vendors to bundle VMware Tools into their product releases
For further information refer to
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=207380...
In this scenario vsphere client will show a 3rd party vmware tools...
Regards
