Dear Team,
I have a HA environment, I need to share same disk on 2 vmware machines (linux machines) but i am getting error:
An error was received from the ESX host while powering on VM TEST_SAS Meta Data.
Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/521ca437-72977c20-31c3-2c59e53c4c58/TEST_SAS Meta Data/TEST_SAS Meta Data_1.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
Failed to lock the file
can you help .
thanks
regards
Yousif
Check the disk sharing instructions from MSCS cluster guide from http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-511-setup-...
Note that linux clustering is not supported.

hi Arun,
this is applied on Linux ?
my case is I have 4 machines running, and i need to add a shared disk to 4 of them.

You will have to chane the scsi controller sharing mode depending on all vms on same host or multiple hosts. The detailed instructions for this setp is shared in the mscs guide that you can use as reference.

Hey YousifQaddoura,
Check this link. I have written this blogpost for RHEL clustering on Linux RHEL 6.3
Clustering using sharing of VMDKs between virtual machines | vPirate
Let me know if you need more info. Would be glad to help you.
first use the following step.
1.Create a folder named as cluster on /vmfs/volume/storage path/cluster
2. Chmod –R 755 cluster/
3.Create a hdd space on this cluster folder size as 10000Mb.
Vmkfstools –c 10000M –d thick –a lsilogic cluster.vmdk
then add scsi controller on physical mode on vm or use abhilash link.
Hello,
Try varying of disk bandwidth to the virtual machine when you share it.
Hope will help
Yours,
Mar Vista
