So, I am trying to figure out if I can give a VM direct access to a disk drive on my machine. I know there was no way to do this in ESXi3 but am wondering if there is now a mechanism for 4.0. My scenario is that I have an OpenFiler NAS appliance running in a VM, and I want to have it manage two large 1.5T drives. Right now I am accomplishing this by creating a 1T VMFS disk, but would like something more efficient.
I have seen and read about passthrough, but that doesn't apply to my machine (nothing compatible if I am not mistaken).
But I have seen that I can add a SCSI device to a VM, will that accomplish what I am looking for?
