Please post (attach) the latest vmware.log file from the VM's folder.

Which edition is it?

There are some limit (at VMware level) or some boot parameters (at Windows level)?

That's not what we need to look for. Please post (attach) the complete vmware.log.

The vmware.log can be found in the VM's folder on the datastore.

To get there, select the VM in the inventory and open the "General" tab. Then right-click the datatore and open it selecting the datastore browser. In the VM's folder, select the vmware.log and then click the download icon.

Which Windows version are you installing? Standard or Enterprise? The standard edition is limited to 4 GB (and the OS can not use all of that, but around 3,3 GB).

The standard x64 has a 32 GB limit.

But I do not remember the limit of the Web edition.

Please refer below link for memoru limit of Windows 2003

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778%28v=vs.85%29.aspx#physical_memory_l...

From the above information, I assume that Windows server 2003 does not have 64bit edition. it supports exceeding 4GB memory by enabling PAE mode.

For web edition of Windows 2003, it is 2GB.

So for this case, I think we need to know which exact Windows server 2003 is used.

Good, then it should not be the version causing this. This MS article does not specify that any Web edition exist with x64:

So if you configure the virtual machine with say 8 GB of vRAM the guest Windows 2003 R2 x64 does only see about 3 GB?

You have of course verified that you have selected the correct Guest Operating System version in vSphere client?
