Hi All,
I am facing some weird issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 Servers which has VMXNET3 adapters assigned. Often some servers become unresponsive not able to ping and connect through RDP. The only way to resolve it, login through VMware console Disable/Enable Adapter resolves the issue. But this not a permanent one.
I have searched some forums and read many articles but nothing gave me concrete solution. Could anyone please help me to get rid of this issue.
Thank You Much In Advance.
Regards,
Thendral.
Are you seeing the issue only with VMXNET3 adapter type or with any other adapter types. Did you check any antivirus software not causing this issue. We have previously seen in our environment Symantec antivirus causing this kind of issue.
Yes, i do face issue only with VMXNET3 adapter machines only. How do i validate that Antivirus is causing the issue since i don't find any traces in Event Logs.
You can take a dump of the VM(We take the snapshot of the VM and convert the snapshot file to dump file using the vmss2core tool) when the issue happens and analyze the dump or if you have MS support send the dump to them to get the cause.
Is it the only possible way to analyze the Antivirus issue, as converting the machine as Dump. Could you please let me know that, is it possible to check the same on online Server, which would be very much helpful for me.
You can try disabling the Antivirus(Not a recommended option) and see it the issue occurs or when the issue occurs try stopping the antivirus. But to get the exact issue you may need to analyze the dump. Also is it only happening on Windows 2008 R2 servers or any other OS versions. Also see if you are using the following way to create the VM and remove any hidden NICs
Ok Sure, I will try your suggestions. Also, Could you please let me know more about Dump (You mean Windows Mini Dump), how to create it and analyze it.
Thank you so much for your help.

To create the full dump for the VM as I said earlier we take the snapshot of the VM and copy the snapshot memory file(.vmsn) to any windows machine and then convert that to Windows dump file using vmss2core tool. We use Windbg from Windows SDK to analyze the dump file and if we can not analyze the dump properly we send that to MS for further analysis.
That's Great. Thank you so much for your time and assistance Bharathi..!!!
