Windows 7 x64 install - no virtual harddrives found

Dear all,

we have a cluster with two esxi 6.0.0 build 2494585 and a Equallogic PS 4110 as storage / iscsi datastore

We would like to install a VM with Windows 7 x64. If we choose the equallogic datastore for this VM, the installation/setup of windows 7 x64 doesn't find any virtual harddrive.

There is only a popup message to install a driver for DVD/Storage-Driver. But we don't have any driver for it.

If we choose the local storage of the esxi for the windows 7 x64 setup, the virtual harddrive is there and found.

If we install windows 7 x86, we can install on both datastores (local and isci equallogic).

Do someone know why the setup cannot find any virtual harddrive if we choose win 7 x64 and the iscsi equallogic datastore?

Why is the virtual harddive found in win 7 x86 setup on iscsi equallogic datastore?

Thanks for all help

That's strange, because the VM isn't actually aware of the virtual disk's location. From a guest OS perspective there's only a local disk connected to an LSI Logic SAS (the default for a Windows 7 VM) controller.

Since the installation works with the same installation image, this should actually be ok. However, just to rule out an issue with the image, please verify it's integrity/checksum. A "driver not found" message is often caused by a corrupted Windows installation image.

We use the same ISO image for install on local storage and on iscsi storage.

But on iscsi storage the virtual hard drive isn't found by the win 7 x64 setup. We download the iso x64 again and check the checksum and it still doesn't work.

Any other idea?

We just took a new iso (Win 7 Pro x64) and it works.

The strange is: the broken iso works on another esx cluster without problems
