Windows 2008 r2 guest losing TCP/IP settings on reboot

Hi

I realise that this isn't going to be an issue with VMWare and more likely to be an OS issue but i thought I'd post here in case someone else has had the same issue and found a fix they want to share.

recently built a new ESXi 5 environment (patched just below update1) and we are finding that a few random VMs, especially our SQL clusters, change from a static IP to "Obtain via DHCP".  Its causing all manner of issues and we can't seem to find a fix from Microsoft.  I thought i had, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982931, but this hotfix is only for Windows 2008 not r2.  the guest VMs are all patched up until fairly recently but there doesnt seem to be any common ground between the VMs that lose their settings.  Its not a full netsh reset as the static routes are still available....

All the VMs were built from the same template and all use the VMXNET3 adapter

Can anyone help?!

thanks

Kerms

Did you deploy these VM's from a template?

If yes, check out this KB: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102007...

I've run into similar issues when there were "super hidden devices" present ... After removing them the problems disappeared
