Windows 2008 / R2 templates question

I came across this Citrix article about creating Win2k8 templates, which tells how to not have an extra partition:

http://community.citrix.com/display/ocb/2010/04/08/CreatingaWindows7orServer2008R2imageforVM+deployment

It is too long to quote...

Anonymous asked if this also applies to VMware templates, is this true??

However, if the extra partition is only 100 MB, can any vExperts et al. comment upon whether this is worth the time and trouble??

Thank you, Tom

An extra partition makes no difference in deployment for a template. ALL it does is bring up the OS, apply the sysprep and reboot. Windows is already installed.

Also the extra parition is REQUIRED for 64-bit Windows 2008, so no way around that.

Plus that guy says it's not straightfoward...umm.what?!?! He says you can't simply install Windows 7, convert to template and deploy. Gee, that's fascinating considering that's ExACTLY what I did and it works fine.

So I would have to say he is incorrect.

Actually upon further review from the booth, he is talking about WIM (Windows deployment, NOT VM Ware deployment). That article is NOT for deployment from template. WIM is quite different.
