Re: Win Server 2008 R2 Static Ip Help

I have a newly created server, Win 2008 R2 that if I put in a static IP with the Gateway and DNS just like my other non-virtual servers, will not connect. Keep on getting a DNS error and can't get out or even remote in. If I switch to DHCP, on the same subnet, it works. There is nothing else on this IP as I have checked that. I have messed with the network settings in the vSphere Client. When I first set this up and put in the Static IP, it worked. Did not play with it (non-operational, yet) for about a week or two. Came back, did not work. I am sure that there was a restart or two in there. I have restarted it AND reinstall Win 2008 R2 complete from disk too.

Note: I just start the vmware stuff back in Nov so new at this.

Hi,

Can you paste an " ipconfig /all " when you set the IPs static , also an ipconfig /all when you set DHCP ?

Welcome to the Community - sounds like something might have changed with your network - in addition to the VM IP information can you send a screen shot of the host's network configuration that VM sits on -

Since you are telling the Ip you got from the DHCP server is working fine. Can you setup the static IP that you got from the DHCP server and reboot and check. If this Ip is correct then i am suspecting the subnet you configured.check the ipconfig flush and restart.

What worked was the putting in the static IP that is the same as the what IP I got from DHCP.
