Why vCenter/ESXi cant rename all VM files of Powered Off VM with Rename operation?

Hi, what exactly is the reason why vCenter/ESXi cant rename all VM files with Rename operation of Powered Off VM?

I do understant that this is not trivial on Powered On machine because of VMDK locking, swap file, snapshot files. But why not renaming files for Powered Off machine?

This should be easy to implement by VMware shouldnt it?

I don't see a technical reason for this. It's not an implemented function (yet!?).

I agree.

The only info I have seen on this is at Duncan's site - look in the last part of the comments where Duncan talks about it.

So now even worse because even Storage vMotion does not rename VM files based on new VM name!!! Very bad.

Agreed. I hope this gets "reverted" in a future release/patch. There's always Converter, but that is a pain compared to how it used to be.
