Why isn't the upgrade option available when upgrading from ESXi 5.0 to 5.1?

I have a Dell 2900 running the Dell Customized ESXi 5.0 .iso. I downloaded the Dell Customized ESXi 5.1 U2 .iso and attempted to upgrade.

The 1st pass of the upgrade failed with an error. Unfortunately, the error was copied down. On all subsequent tries, we only receive the option to Install on the datastore which houses ESXi 5.0.

Attached is a screenshot of the datastore where it indicates that ESXi is not found.

How can I get the upgrade to recognize this datastore has ESXi 5.0 running?20141111_102645.jpeg

Hi Rob,

can you still boot into the old ESXi 5.0?

Hi Alistar,

The existing ESXi 5.0 boots with no problems. I'm hoping there's somewhere in the logs that shows why the initial upgrade failed.
