Hardware:
According to the HCL the Z97 (lynx point) AHCI controller is support for SATA storage and the NIC I bought specially. I installed Hypervisor from DVD to the USB key. It boots fine and joins the network. I cannot however use the two hard disks for storage (RAID or otherwise). According to the HCL lynx point is supported but it doesn't work. There are plenty of ESXi Customiser tutorials to add vib files to the ISO for a reinstall (this and that) including ones for lynx point but if it is supported why doesn't it just work?
Is there something people are doing wrong?
Is the HCL only supported through the ESXi Customiser?
I will be attempting the ESXi customiser and assume it will work as others have succeeded also but is this a step we (customers free and paid) should be doing when the HCL says we are all good?
Are you sure this motherboard is on HCL???
I'd be very surprised, because generally ESXi does not support common consumer workstation motherboards...
The HCL claims compatibility with Lynx Point controllers (search "lynx") however I cannot confirm currently my variant is within the HCL (8 out of 14 chance).
Does the standard ISO have all drivers for the HCL or is the Customiser standard practice?
"Lynx Point" might be supported (some versions) but maybe Z97-chipset is not. BTW, H97/Z97 desktop-chipsets are using newer version, known as "Wildcat Point". These might not yet be supported. As I said: those are purely desktop-chipsets, and ESXi does not take care about desktop-components. Maybe later they will be used in server-boards too...
