Why do 2008R2 VMs start with disconnected network

Hi,

we recently started to use Windows Server 2008 R2. When I deploy a VM from a template it always starts up with disconnected network.

I have never seen this before here, but as there were some changes in the environment I am not sure what causes this problem.

Here is some info on our environment:

ESXi 4.1 (current patches installed)

vCenter 4.1 (up to date as well)

Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise VM/Template, the only network interface is "connected at power on"

Network used is on a dvSwitch, Port Group has dynamic port binding

Can anyone tell where this behaviour comes from? Is is tthe port binding or something else?

That is happening because template deployment via customization of a virtual machine using dynamic port binding is not supported.  See the following KB:
