Whitebox network performances issues

Hello,

I have a strange issue on my lab test boxes that's starting to drive my crazy ...

I have a whitebox ESXi v4 host and I'm experiencing deadly slow transfer rate when I try moving stuff to/from my FreeNAS (NFS on ZFS) storage box.

Whitebox specs :

- HP DC7800 Convertible Minitower

- 8GB RAM

- 1 onboard NIC (Intel Corporation 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection)

- 2 PCI NIC, Intel PRO/1000 MT (Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

FreeNAS specs :

- HP DC7700 Convertible Minitower

- 4GB RAM

- 1 onboard NIC (Intel Corporation 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection)

- 1 PCI NIC, Intel PRO/1000 MT (Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

The tests I've done, and the results I've got :

- Connected the ESXi and the FreeNAS using an HP ProCurve 1400-8 Gigabit switch (on every possible cards combinations)

=> Command used : ~ # dd if=/dev/zero of=/vmfs/volumes/nfs_on_freenas/test2

=> Result : between 4 and 6 MB/s

- Connected the ESXi and the FreeNAS on a crossover link (on every possible cards combinations, as well)

=> Command used : ~ # dd if=/dev/zero of=/vmfs/volumes/nfs_on_freenas/test1

=> Result : between 4 and 6 MB/s

(Same results)

- Connected the FreeNAS to an Ubuntu server using crossover link & using the HP ProCurve (on every possible cards combinations, likewise)

=> Command used : ubuntu # dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/nfs_on_freenas/test3

=> Result : between 40 and 45 MB/s

When I choose autonegociate, it select 1000 Full duplex automatically, and I've tried using "autoselect" as well as using the "1000 Full Duplex" manual setting.

I've double check the settings, no QOS or traffic shaping on any sides.

Also, the cable(s) are Cat5e certified.

Any help greatly appreciated on this one ...
