Whether the VM will be damaged when the storage vMotion failed in the process

Hi Friends,

Whether the VM will be damaged when the storage vMotion failed in the process?

Thanks.

What was the failure? I would file an SR with VMware for help getting it resolved. If there is some issue they will want to know about it as well.

Do I understand your question correctly.

You only want to know what happens in case there's an issue during the SVMotion process?

If the process fails, nothing should happen to the VM. SVMotion basically performs a copy of the VM to the new location. Only if this copy can be done without errors, the VM will be redirected to the new datastore and the old files will be deleted.

Thank you.

We are worried that in  the svmotion process something is wrong with the network or the storage, what will happens, does it damaged the VM?

like mentioned above, it's doing a copy and paste then 100% by deleting the source. if the process failed mid way. the copy and paste fail but then since it's a copy process your data will still be intact.

Storage Vmotion is safe and can be performed on a live VM.

If the Storage VMotion is susccesful, the VM will move to the new location

If it fails, the VM will remain in its orignal location.
