Where can I download VMware esx public source 4.0 ?

I need it to build SATA driver for Gigabyte P55-USB3L Motherboard.

Have a look here:

http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4#open_source

Building a driver yourself is not for the faint of heart, it is not a matter of simply recompiling a linux driver, you will need to edit the sources to adjust it for the kernel as ESX does things differently.

all the drivers outside of what are already installed into the ESX4 install, can be found at http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4#drivers_tools

However, also check the HCL for officially supported hardware platforms

You cannot build your custom driver.

Have a look on the whitebox configuration to see if your controller can work (and if yes, how...):
