What to document before replacing an ESXi 5.0 host

Hello,

I'd like to know what other people do and/or use to document an ESXi host that needs to be replaced.

We do not have the ablility to use host profiles or auto deploy.

So I'm doing it manually.  Taking screen shots of each main screen.

But I think there is a better, faster way to do this, maybe scripting, software.  This could also serve as documentation for DR.

Depending on what you have configured on the host, you may either backup and restore the configuration using the vCLI (see e.g. http://professionalvmware.com/2010/05/how-to-backup-esxi-configuration-the-missing-piece/) or make note of the important settings like virtual network setup, ...
