thanks andrew, so looks like DMOtion is replaced by Storage VMotion, please confirm and we were using DMOtion for VM"s to migare from VMFS 2 to 3, still not good understaning ..

can you point to some docs whare the difference between sVmotion and DMotion is define if any.

DMotion (or Disk vMotion) and Storage Vmotion are conceptually the same. Both technologies are used to replicate a virtual machine between two datastores by sychronising the disks at block level while the VM is running.

The difference between the two is that DMotion is only used in the specific case of a migration upgrade from 2.X to 3.X (and possibly 4.0?) whereas storage vmotion is a feature of both the VI/vSphere client and the API. Storage Vmtion can be triggered at any time by the administrator (or a 3rd party utility) as long as the VM in question fulfils the requirements.
