Hi
We have a vSphere ESX Server with 7 VM's running in production environment on a Proliant DL380 Server.
Now I would like to buy a second DL380 Serverand a second vSpehre License to create a fault tolerance with two servers. So if the vSphere Server1 goes down, the second one Server2 overtakes the job from Server1.
Which product should I have for this scenario? Do we need the vCenter server for that? And if so, will I have to buy a third server only for vCenter?
Thx
Wayne
Hi,
as you read here
http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/editions_comparison.html
for FT you need at last the Advanced Edition.
So you nedd to have a vcenter license and for each ESX host an Advanced Edition.

Hi,
at first look on vmwarer HCL to check out if you server is listed there and have all requirements for FT.
Yes you need a vcenter but can install it as a vm in your cluster.
Also look which edition you need.
