Web access down

HTTP and HTTPS access to one of the hosts in my cluster is not working.  I can telnet to port 80 and 443, but when directing a web browser to the host the page never loads.  This happened a few weeks back to a different host in the same cluster.  In that instance, restarting the management services resolved the problem, but it hasn't helped in this case.

The virtual machines are running fine and everything communicates perfectly from vCenter.  I'm running ESXi 4.1. If there's a kb out there that addresses this specific issue, I've missed it.  It's just odd.  Normally ESXi is rock solid and I've now had the same problem on two different hosts within a few weeks of each other.

In case others run into the same situation, here is the solution.

I feel rather silly, but it didn't occur to me that there was a difference between restarting the management services from the console vs the command line.

running a services.sh restart corrected the web page access problems.
