Vsphere license and CPU core

VMware vSphere 6 Essentials Kit for 3 hosts that support 2 CPU 8 cores.

What happens if install it on CPU with more core( 10, 12)?

There are any problem? Only 8 cores are utilizes? Or it doesn't work?

Thank, Fabrizio

Hi,

can you please tell me where you found the 8 Core Limit for the Essentials Kits?

I'm not aware of such limits.

I've found here.

VMware vSphere 6 Essentials Kit for 3 hosts (Max 2 processors per host) - VS6-ESSL-KIT-C

If I'm not wrong, 8 way stand for 8 cores.

For Vsphere version 5, I've found 6 cores.

Anyway, the problem remain. Can I install into host with  CPU at 10 cores (may be disabling cores?). My hardware is 2 cpu with 10 core, even if i don't need so many power in my application.

Last question, Essential kit is delivered for 6 CPUs total (3 hosts x 2 CPU), can I convert some CPU license into more core if I have only 2 hosts?

Thank, Fabrizio

8-Way Virtual SMP means the number of virtual CPUs you can assign per VM.

There is no limit on the physical cores on your host.

Ok, I've solved.

On Vsphere essential kit there are no limitations on cores numbers.

The mentioned brochure, with  8 way virtual SMP, refer to the VM, not to host CPU.

Thanks anyway,

Fabrizio
