Vsphere client v6 and VM version

Hi,

I'm using VSphere Client 6, connecting to a Virtual Center version 6. There is a warning for VM versions higher than 8 during VM creation:

'If you use this client to create a VM with the version, the VM will not have the new features and controllers in this hardware version, etc...'

I don't understand why this would be the case. It's a reasonably recent version of the VSphere client and Virtual Center. Why shouldn't I be able to create VMs with version 9, 10 or 11 through my VSphere client? It seems a bit odd to me.Is there any version of the VSphere client will will allow creation of VMs with a higher version that 8 (yes I can use web client but I'm not a big fan of the web client and generally work via VSphere client where possible)? I could accept version 11 may need a slightly higher version of the client (update 1 or update 2 or something) but 9 and 10 should be fine with version 6 of Vsphere client/Virtual Center.

Cheers,

Tim

Cause of some development issue, VMware didn't add new VM hardware version support in vSphere Client (C# Client) and VMware has plan to retire the application in the next version.

So when you upgrade VM version to 10 or higher, you need to manage some configurations via vSphere Web Client.

Davoud - thanks for the response!

They're getting rid of the c# client? I guess I'll have to get used to the web client then.....

Yes they are getting rid of the c# client. This happened previously but they got it back on customer demand. But starting from the next version it is going away for good.

And yes, high time to get used to the web client. It's not as bad it was in the previous versions.
