Does anyone know the best way to reduce the storage size of a linux host? I am looking but getting lots of different answers. Thank you.
I assume you talk about Linux VMs - not Linux hosts ???
We need to know:
- do you have snapshots ?
- do you use vmdks that were created way too large ?
Before you create a new Linux VM figure out which directories will grow significantly once the VM is used in production.
If your VM will need a lot of space in /home/kevin and /var/www then create two more vmdks with a single partition.
Then mount them in /home/kevin and /var/www
This way you can easily expand those two vmdks later.
Do not even consider to create Linux VMs with bootdisks in the TB range - thats bad idea ...

2. Yes, I have snapshots
3. I am working with a VM that was previously created, I know how to correctly plan VM sizes
4. My question was how to best reduce an existing VM
4. My question was how to best reduce an existing VM
By creating a new one and copy the content.

I believe the only way to reduce the size of a existing VM is to use something like "VMware Converter" and since Converter is now retired, you would need to use a third party product that could do this.
