Vsphere 5.0 client works over network, but not through SSH tunnel

Hoping somebody can assist.

Seems that others have this issue as well.

Can successfully connect over the network, but not through an SSH tunnel.

Over the network, I get prompted to accept/ignore an SSL certificate.  This does not happen when attempting to connect remotely (through an SSH tunnel).

Through the course of troubleshooting, I have port forwarded practically all TCP ports, starting w/ port 80, 443, & 902.

Through the SSH tunnel, via browser, I can successfully access https://127.0.0.1 (the VMware server), but the client software will not complete the connection, w/ error message:  "...The client could not send a complete request to the server."

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Managed to figure this out myself, after investing way more time than I should have.

Within your SSH client, port forward using a local, loopback IP OTHER THAN 127.0.0.1 (like 127.0.0.2 for example).

Port forward 127.0.0.2:443 --> target IP:443

                  127.0.0.2:902 --> target IP:902

                  127.0.0.2:903 --> target IP:903

It sees 127.0.0.1 just fine, but fails at login.

Thank you for trying.

Hi,

Few things you need to check

1.Check whether your client anti-virus protection blocking or not.Try to use different client and see if the issue persist.

2.If you are using 2003 or XP Client you need hot fixes,refer KB VMware KB: Search fails and Hardware Health and Health Status plug-ins are disabled in the vSphere C...

Disabled antivirus, didn't make a difference.

Thank you for the feedback.

We are using Windows 7.  I've tried from a few different machines, w/ the same results.
