Vsphere 4.1 ,VM unresponsive on specific time

Hi All,

We have 3 Host DRS,HA enabled Cluster running Virtual Machines.

Today i had a problem with one VM that configured to run Multiple scheduled tasks for App enironment.

The problem is " VM is not responding on specific time " ( Like VM is Put my task on waiting for long time) on specific time.

But other times it works well, No constant High CPU, only sudden Spikes..

Here are the Configurations for that VM,

Before:

VM : Windows 2k3 ,3 vCPU , Memory 12 GB

CPU Limit : 13489 MHZ

Worst Cast Allocation : 3.49 GHZ

Share Value : 3000 ( Niormal)

I chaged to CPU Limit and shares:

CPU Limit : unlimited

Share Value : 4000 (Custom)

Worst Cast Allocation : 3.49 GHZ (Not changed)

please advise is this setting will work or this will create any Performace impact over the VM/Cluster.

Hence this is my first post and am newbie to this.

Need your Advise.

Regards,

Rajesh Kumar.S

Were any other VM's having issues are this time?

What do the Event logs and monitoring software say whas happening on the guest at the time in question (windows side not VMware side)

What were these tasks, where memory intensive or CPU intensive or IO intensive or a mixture of all three?

No, Other VM's works fine.
(This VM will handle the network inputs and send across others Servers).
Sorry I Didn't checked event logs as this will accure once in a week.
Actually we dont work on this windows Guest VM, it will automatically work as scheduled by tasks.
The Tasks are Getting Database requests and send to Citrix App servers.( THis is handled by Application Developer)
So i dont have great idea about what it acutally doing, But 100% sure only set of 60+ scheduled tasks running on this VM.
Since this is releated to Documents and database i think it is IO intensive. Sorry if am wrong..
Thanks

So from what you are saying it seems that the issue is related to this particular VM.  I would set up some perfmon checks on the guest (from with in the guest) and monitor.

the fact that no other guest machine is affected appears to rule out the VMware environment.
