Volume permissions

Hi

Ive set up a trial of ESX 4 on our test server which is a new Dell t710 It has 3 disk arrays 2 x raid 1 arrays and 1 x raid 5 array. Ive got ESX 4 up and running fine. Ive defined one of the volumes to VMware to use as storage which is fine. Im trying to copy an iso of Windows 2003 to it via winscp as we would do to our SAN on our main ESX3.5 production system but it fails with access denied. Where do I need to go to grant permission to copy the iso over to the volume ?

the user you used habs probably not the right to write in the folder you want to transfer the iso to.

You could try copying it to esx:/tmp first and move it to the /vmfs/volume... then with your root-account.

if you use root credential it should allow you to copy through winscp. I presume you r trying to copy the ISO on local VMFS volume. Just import the file to any vmfs ( shared ) DS volume through VC and copy to local VMFS. Thanks!
