Vmware upgrade ESX3.5 to ESX4.0 on IBM X3650 whith ServerRAID8k

Good morning, I should upgrade a server from esx 3.5U5a to 4.0U4 on an IBM x3650 TYPE 7979 whith 8k SAS RAID controllers.
Reading the vSphere Upgrade Guide esx4 (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_upgrade_guide.pdf) i found in the system requirments  have at least one IBM controller ServeRAID 8k SAS.
On the vmware web site "vmware compatibility Guide"(http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=9163&deviceCate...) I find the compatibility for ServeRAID 8k controller is given only up to version ESX3.5U5.
At this point I wanted to understand if I do the upgrade on my server IBM x3650 TYPE 7979 and what risk with 8k controller.?
Thanks

ESX 4.0 host wont be able to see the storage since there is no inbuilt aacraid module loaded. You can check with IBM is there a custom driver for 40U4 to support 8k SAS.
