Vmware esxi 4.1 upgrade to esxi 5.1

Hi,

I have a local host with esxi 4.1 embedded installed on an internal USB device. The host has additional local datastores and I would like to install esxi 5.1 and NOT upgrade. Will the 2 addional datastores be preserved and the VMs still be available after the installation? I understand that the vmfs volumes would still be formatted with vmfs3.

I normally do the upgrades with hosts attached to SAN so it is quite easy; however this is a standalone host.

They should be preserved but backup your vms in case if you dont have any

the VMs still be available after the installation?

you will have to browse the datastore to add to inventory

I understand that the vmfs volumes would still be formatted with vmfs3.

there will be no change to the vmfs
