Vmware ESXi 4.1 is evil (maybe ESX in general)

I have a VMWare ESXi 4.1 environment where the ESX host have 10Gig interface(s) and on that ESX there are multiple VM guest OSes such as microsoft Windows and Redhat 5.4 Linux.

There is an application running on the Redhat Linux guest OS that uses multicast with an external party.  the linux guest OS sees random multicast packet drops and yet on the ESXtop  I am not seeing any packet drops.

What I had to resort is to put a sniffer on the switchport connect directly to the ESX host and sniffer the traffics to reconstruct the packet and I found that the multicast traffic does reach the ESX host but some how is not passing to the guest OS.

I am very suprised that VM does not have any good tools to troubleshoot issue like this :smileyplain:
