    Hello

in vmware workstation you could create vmnets, is there such thing in esxi 4.1?

i researched and some say vlans and others say just install a dhcp server vm.

i really liked that feature.. is there a way to do it in esxi?

i really liked to assign different nics to different vmnets..

With ESXi networking is accomplished through the use of virtual switches -  you can find more here http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_intro_vs.pdf andhttp://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vs_pages/vsp_pubs_esxi41_i_vc41.html for a complete set of docs -

Yes you can assign the ESXi network cards, and assign VLANs if you want one for each different network card.

This might is useful for you http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/virtual_networking_concepts.pdf

Virtual networking in ESXi does not work the same way as in desktop products (Workstation/Player/Server). In ESXi you basically build vSwitches which provide internal ports for the virtual machines and external ports for the uplinks to physical switches. There's nothing build in like DHCP and NAT. If you need that kind of functionality you either have to provide this externally or internally as a virtual machine.

    Thank you.

I didn't want to do Vlans, it's too much for such a simple thing.

You can accomplish the same thin with ESXi - you build different virtual switches and assign a network card to each virtual xwitch - then when you build a VM you connect to the virtual switch you with NIC you want the traffic to go out - that way the VMs traffic will onlyt go out that one NIC and there will be no need for vlans
