Hi !
i am setting a lab up in esxi 5 which simulates different networks and ip addresses (internal, dmz, internet and ..)
so i need to have a router in my scenario
can i do that in esxi 5 or i need some third party software like vyatta ?
Hi,
1.)
ESXi is not a General Purpose OS.
ESXi uses the SysLinux only for loading the vmkernel.
2.)

yes, you could use vyatta, or even open-wrt (ver very small) in a VM

Reinhard.
Hi,
the vSwitches on the ESX are L2 Switches,
and the ESX does not route between them, so yu have to use a VM as router beween these networks.
kind regards,
Reinhard.
ok !
two questions
1- the underlying of esxi is a linux os. can we use that or not ?
2- if not what routing vm or method (simple and efficient) do u suggest ? is vyatta good for a lab setup ?
