We currently have ESXi4 and Virtual Center 4 (VSphere) in a blade configuration. What we are trying to do is migrate away from our physical servers which currently are clustered on a SANs. Can a "virtual HBA" be presented to the P2V servers so they would see the appropriate LUNs and restore the cluster configuration? Any help would be most appreciated. Thx!
Is it a Microsoft Cluster that you are doing a p2v on? Maybe the user of RDM would work here. Check out the document for setting up Microsoft Clusters to see if you can get anything from it, http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_mscs.pdf.
Yes. One of the cluster will be a MSC but we another that will be using Linux.
I think you will find that MSCS will only officially support RDM's.
So if you are P2Ving a MSCS system, I would P2V the OS, and present the LUNS to your ESX environment and attach to your VM as RDM's. Making sure that you scsi controller is in Physical compatibility mode so as to allow the sharing of the RDMs to the other half of the cluster.
