Video card for display on virtual machine

Is there a step-by-step guide to getting a graphics card to output video from a virtual machine?.  I've seen tons of forum posts without many definitive results and often in excess of 50 pages of text to read through.  I have a Windows 7 machine I'd like to get video to output from and currently I have a monitor hooked up with a Radeaon 8700 card on esxi 5.5.  Any help would be appreciated.

That guide will probably not be very helpful since its only for highend gpu:s and the procedure will be different.

Interesting read indeed (I have already read it) but as mentioned, it doesn't really apply to me.
