Just to clarify:

You have a single ESXi host.  You setup a new virtual machine and install an OS.  When the OS reboots and tries to use networking the ESXi host reboots.

Is this correct?

Please provide some additional details:

1. ESXi version

2. Virtual Machine OS

3. Managed with vcenter

4. Virtual networking setup for ESXi host and for Virtual machines

5. Hardware the ESXi host is running on

6. Anything in either logs that may help

Thanks,

J

Is your server on the Vmware HCL for 5.1?

Have you tried re-installing esxi?

Thanks,

J

Does the host stay alive when you (re)boot the VM with the network adapter connected at poweron checkbox checked out and do you use a VMXNET3 adapter?

Could you swap that one with the VMXNET3? Make sure that you don't have a MAC and / or IP conflict.

Sorry for the delayed response.  Please make sure your whole system is on the VMware HCL
