VSwitch and Network handling

Hi, I have a question: How does a VSwitch work, if two VMs communicate between each other. If the network data is sent to the network card and then to the hardware or communication is handled within the VSwitch?

Greetings from Germany!

If the VMs are on the same vSwitch and VLAN then the traffic doesn't hit the physical network adapter.  If the VMs were on different vSwitches, then traffic would hit the physical network.  Likewise if the VMs were on different VLANs then the traffic would have to go through your router.
