VSS error when creating quiesced Snapshot

Hello!

I have a W2K3 R2 SBS running in a VM in ESX 4.0. The Server was P2V'ed using Symantec BE System Recovery and ran fine all the time.

However since upgrading to HW Version 7 and installing the latest VMWare tools which enabled application level consistent snapshots I cannot backup the VM any more using DR. I also cannot create a quiesced snapshot from vCenter.

I get event id 8, VolSnap and 12998 VSS

The system is German OS, I try to translate the error messages:

I did not find the second error somewhere on the Internet, also maybe because I do not have the correct English version. Anybody any ideas?

Thanx, Stephan

Hi,

check the Vmware Snapshot Provider service is installed and should not be disabled on your VM.

If Vmware snapshot is not installed then you have to installed VMware tools on your VM or if VM tools are installed then you have to repair your VM tools.

Let me know after checking these.

Thnx

Sorry, forgot to mention, that everything is installed and configured as it should.

vssadmin list providers is fine and vssadmin list writers also shows no problem ...

Is this a 32bit or 64bit VM ?

It is a 32bit system.

I tried creating a VSS Snapshot from inside the OS and that works without any problems ... strange ....
