Hi,
I powered off my server, when powering back up it claims I don't have the correct license for my servers.
Error message "Feature vsmp not licensed, requires 16 have 8"
I have not done any other changes to the server.
Server details:
HP Proliant DL380 G6
Processor sockets: 2
Processors cores per socket: 6
Logical processors: 24
Hyperthreading: Enabled
Details for license:
Product: VMware vSphere 5 Hypervisor Licensed for 2 physical CPUs (unlimited cores per CPU)
License Key: [Removed]
Expires: Never
Product Features:
Up to 8-way virtual SMP
Anyone else had this problem?
If I change the settings and lower the CPU's the server starts.
Any help would be appreciated 🙂
Looks like you're using the free vSphere ESXi 5 hypervisor license that has a limitation of 8 vCPU per VM. So, when did you applied that license to your host?
The system was installed with the license a little over 2 years ago.
What is strange is that it suddenly didn't support more vCPU's.
Is there a maybe a time limitation on the license?
There's no time limitation, it's just the license which restricts VM's from being powered on if they use unlicensed features.
When did you last power on (not reboot) the virtual machine. What I could think of, is that the VM was powered on while the host was still running in evaluation mode, and the host license was applied later (just a guess)!?
