VMware vSphere Client log in problem

I can't access my server using the vSphere Client at present.  (I am using the free version of ESXi 5).  I enter my IP Address, User Name and Password, then click 'Login'.  A box pops up prompting me to Update the client software, but when I click either, 'Run the installer' or 'Save the installer', I get another the response that 'Update Save Failed' and that 'The required client support files cannot be retrieved from the server "vsphereclient.vmware.com".  The login process will now exit...'

So, without this update I can't log in to my server, yet the update won't download for some reason.  Is there another way I can manually download this update so that I can update log in?  I've attached a screen print of the pop up boxes that appear.  Thanks in advance.

Dan

When you enter the https://<esxi-ip>; in the browser, you will get a link to download vsphere client. Download the latest one and use it. Maybe be its because of internet connection issues. Check and make sure the machine is connected to internet and try again and see if it'll run the installer or do as I mentioned. Either ways u need internet connection.

It seems that Vsphere u have download no downloaded properly ..You can download it again from web and you can download directly from host web address,

https://192.0.0.0 ( your host IP ) and there you will see Vsphere client ..just download this and install again..

It will work for you..

I have already tried downloading the latest version from vmware and I still have the same problem.  I also assumed this would have solved the problem as there would probably have been an update to the client software in the last 60 days (at the start of my trial period).  I have an internet connection that works fine, so not sure why it fails to connect to vmware's server to make the download.  If anybody knew of a link to the update that is trying to be downloaded, then that could solve my problem.

It seems a bit ridiculous that just because I can't update the software I can't access my server and do any work.  I wonder what this update is, how important the update is and why it's critical before I can continue using the client.  Is this update being asked for because I have just licensed the software (free version).  It seems a bit of a coincidence that in the 60 day trial I didn't have to update the software once, but then after licensing it's now requiring it before I can continue.

Did u uninstall the previous client and install this or installed along with it? It's possible to run multiple clients there's also a possibility u tried accessing it again with older one. So delete all of them. And install the latest one. Let me know if it's still giving same problem

I installed the new download without removing the old software - I assumed it would update the original instal with the new updates (if there were any in the new download).  Yes, maybe it installed another copy of the software and I re-opened the original copy, either way I have solved my problem by switching my internet connections round.  I have 2 internet connections coming into the house from 2 different ISP's.  I switched the ethernet cables between the NIC's (in my computer used to access the server) so that I was now using the other internet connection to access the server.  For some reason the software let me log in without prompting for an update to the software.

Why would one internet connection want me to update the software and the other not?  It doesn't make any sense.

Hi Everyone there, I am also facing similar issues I am trying to connect to Esxi though management port directly with no internet access to the server. when I try to connect it through vsphere client it's showing same problem "run or save the installer" but when I try to continue it fails "cannot retrieve files from vmware.vsphereclient.com. Tried to install and reinstall the s/w but not working.

Thanks,

Danish

I downloaded ever version of the client one by one and tested it.  VMware-viclient-all-5.1.0-1880906 seemed to be the one that worked for me.  However you may just want to try each version one by one for your version of VMWare.

This was the page I used to download the client. VMware Knowledge Base

You must go to https://<esxi-ip> and do a mouse-over the "Download vsphere client" link. When you do that, it will show you the required version. You have to write that down an then you can search and download it from vmware. It will work on the first try without needing to try all the versions until you find the good one.
