Hello.
Only paid licenses are registered and can be managed in the license management section.

From what you have indicated you have a Free license.

In the link above you can get the free license for version 7 and from where to download the software.
You must validate that all your hardware (CPU, Network Card, Disk Controller) is supported by the new version.

It depends on if your subscription contract is up and running or expired. When its expired it depends on the date... vSphere comes in 10/2020?  So if your subscription ends prior you are not allowed to upgrade and you cant because you will not get new serials.

So log into your VMware CustomerConnect portal ->Licenses(Contratcs) and toogle the display filter from "All products" to "up gradable". Select the entry and use the "upgrade" action button on the right. Then just follow the wizard to get the serial key.

Also the Dell Custom ISO you have to download from that portal. After selecting your edition, ESXi you have to switch to the "Custom ISO" tab and select Dell.

Joerg

vSphere 7 comes out in 10/2020? So if you subscription runs out after that date you are entitled to upgrade for free.

  1. Login
  2. Select "Manage Licenses
  3. . They modified the look and feel.. there is BIG option now.. you cant miss that!

Hello.
A detail is your license free or paid ?
Formally the free version is called VMware vSphere Hypervisor X.
The paid version is called VMware vSphere X.

If what you require is the free version I attach link where you can get the free license of version 7 and access to downloads.
You must have a user and password registered in VMware (free) and then register for the free version.

good evening Enrique

this is what I have:

VMware vSphere 6 Hypervisor
Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Expiration date:
Never
Features:
Up to 8-way virtual SMP

so, this appears to be the free version if I follow you message correctly?

Is there any issue with installing / upgrading from 6.5 > to > 7 and using the link you sent me?

Will it still be a free version then?

thank you for getting back to me!

good evening Joerg,

thank you for getting back to me.

I logged in, but can't find the "License Manager" ????

if I search on it, it takes me to the knowledgebase, but not to the window that you show?

Am I missing something?

thanks!

Hi Joerg,

are you saying I will need to get my upgrade ISO from Dell?

instead of VMWare?

I assume that is because of the Dell Drivers?

thanks!

If you have a PowerEdge Server you should use the Dell Custom ISO.

About your license..... you havent answered the question if you use the the Free vSphere Hypervisor or the $$$ vSphere ESXi. It looks like that youre using the free one because of the the name "Hypervisor" and the feature "8 way SMP". The later one is a limitation of the free Hypervisor.

So you dont have a subscription and i cant tell if its possible to upgrade the license within the customer connect portal or if you just simple sign up to the free ESXi 7.

Joerg
