hi,
working on a project and i'm at the sales quote stage. I am new the vmware. I have read that SRM will not license for the bundle. My project manager raised this with the reseller and they said it could be easily upgraded for a price to support SRM. Mmmm.
6 month rollout project:
stage 1 Site 1 = 2 hosts/1 iSCSI SAN, VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Plus Bundle. HA for SQL failover is key.
stage 2 Site 2 = 2 hosts/1 iSCSI SAN, VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Plus Bundle. HA for SQL failover is key.
stage 3 Site 1<->2, SAN replication. UPGRADE Vsphere!. SITE RECOVERY manager
(hosts have 1 quad core but could be 2 later.)
Going to advise project manager to challenge the upgrade price.
Do you see any problems other than price and upgrade risk?
I am assumming at stage 2 completion each vCentre can only manage it sites hosts. The upgrade should resolve this.
Did search first. Thanks in advance.
Check SRM requirements... As I remember it require a vCenter Standard on both site.
Andre
This is what I found before.
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/srm_compat_matrix_4_1.pdf
"ESX and vSphere Server Requirements
SRM 4.0 and later are compatible with:
VMware vSphere Standard, Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus editions
VMware Infrastructure Enterprise, Foundation, and Standard editions"
The reseller has now come back today advising customer on new options and real end game prices if hes requires SRM.
VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Plus to vSphere 5 Enterprise Acceleration Kit Upgrade
or
vSphere 4 Advanced Acceleration Kit to vSphere 5 Enterprise Acceleration Kit
Later is a free upgrade but much higher initial cost but lower overall cost.
Of course customers quote has gone from £££ to £££££ in total project spend. He'll have to decide what to do, certainly I'll suggest he doesnt actually upgrade mid-project.
back on the technical....
My question was about bundle 4 to a vsphere 4 version with SRM 4 and the risks. As 5 version is unknown and being as its .0 this thread may have run its course.
PS this all helps my learning of vmware world.
