We are in the process of purchasing license for "VMware vCenter Server 4.1 Update 1 and modules standard", but have not purchased license yet.

I wanted to give a try to VMware Vcenter 4.1 standard. From where can I download the trial version of "VMware vCenter Server 4.1 Update 1 and modules standard" ?

You can download it from www.vmware.com.  Select Evaluation and it will provide you with a time limited key and a link to download the binaries.
