Hi Ohada,

What do you get in your vCenter vpxd logs? I seem to remember an issue with having a vm with vmdk's the same name but not case - VM1.vmdk & vm1.vmdk. It came back with a error about violating FK constraints. Also there was another for snapshots not getting saved properly which gives another SQL based error in the logs...

Cheers!

Neil

Hi, restart  vmware services & sql but before this check if you have some errors logs in events.

I have seen something similar - I believe it was something to do with the vCenter service trying to start at the same time as the SQL DB was starting and because vCenter could not access the DB the service timed out and stopped. There are KB articles about editing the registry setings to delay the starting of the Vcenter service and have SQL as a dependency.

if the sql instance service is running and the service still can't start then it's not an issue with service startup dependencies - still need to check the vpxa logs for more specific messages

actually can that previous message, would edit it but my tablet based browser won't let me.. the logs were above.. out of interest, if you connect to the host directly can you see two instances of a datastore called local with different caps/case sensitive? or vmdk's?

Thanks, Neil

i have 6 host and 12 shared datastores.

every host see it own local datastore (called hostname001-local) and all the other shared datastore.

do i need to chack every vm folder to look for duplicate vmdk that maybe exist?

maybe its db problem so i'm trying to restore the db from earlier date-you think its work?
