VMware Update Manager for 5.x

Hi. Could someone clarify as to whether or not vUM will patch the VMs guest (Windows) OS? If not, what's the alternative (other than the normal route for Windows OS VMs).

Thanks.

vSphere Update Manager cannot do Windows patches. VMware does offer vCenter Protect for patching Windows.

Just one last question concerning this topic: Did the Update Manager ever (vSphere 4 or 3) perform this task?

Thx.

Yes, patching guests was included in earlier version and has been removed by VMware.

Yes, it was there and then removed in vSphere 5.
