VMware Tools warnings in eventviewer

Hello,

Last week we upgraded our vsphere servers to version 6. Today I notice that on our RDS server, there are a lot of events from VMware Tools, like every couple of seconds (see below). VMware Tools is up to date on this server, and all vsphere updates are installed on the host as well. The RDS server is Windows Server 2012, with about 10 clients active on it. The only thing I can find on the net, is this: VMware KB: Installing VMware Tools 5.1/5.5 on a Windows virtual machine reports Unity warnings in Wi..., but that doesn't help. I hope someone here has any other ideas? Thanks !!

what is the compatibility mode (hardware version)? if its outdated . upgrade it to the latest vmx-11 and then update your vmtools in to your virtual machine.

We're using hardware version 8 at the moment. When we upgrade to v11, will it still be possible to edit vm hardware with the standalone vsphere client?

Yes. its quite possible. read the below blog . Must download the client first before upgrading hardware version.

Hmm, guess I'll have to try that then. Will have to wait until some quiet time because I can't just kick the users off the server off course 🙂  I'll come back here with the results!

I didn't have the opportunity to shutdown the host until half an hour ago. The errors seem to occur only if there's enough users connected to the rds server, so it too soon to say if it's fixed or not. I'll keep an eye on it and keep you informed!

EDIT: I'm affraid the problem still occurs. I've upgraded to hardware version 11, and I still get the same warnings in the eventviewer...

Same issue here on a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 running RDS for 10-15 clients. It is still hardware version 10 but on ESXi 6. It doesn't appear to impact performance but it does add to the event log every few seconds

I kind of forgot about the issue, to be honest. I went to look at the eventviewer now, and it seems like the problem is gone somehow. No idea what fixed it... The last entries in eventviewer are from june 15th...

just wanted to let you know, that we have the same issue. We have a XenApp 6.5 Terminalserver Farm on Windows Server 2008 R2. We migrated from XenServer to VMware 6.0 and the eventlogs get flooded with this error.

I try to file a suppor request with VMware.

I have the same issue as Starko423. We moved an XenApp server to our VMware 6.0 environment and are seeing the errors.

We are also seeing this issue.  We moved to vSphere 6 a few weeks ago from 5.5 and did not get this issue straight away.  It wasn't until the vmware tools were upgraded to v6 this weekend (latest patches and versions for August 2015) that we started seeing these flooding our RDSH logs.

We have the same issue also on our 2008 R2 server. ESX version 6.  Latest host patches are installed.  Server is VM version 10 and tools are out of date.  We also have a 2012 server that is setup for RDS that is NOT licensed and I am not seeing the event viewer messages on that server.  Just the 2008 R2 server
