VMware Host on IBM x3650 M4 reporting different total memory values

I have a strange issue with reported Memory on an IBM x3650 M4 running ESXi 5.5 in that it is reporting a Memory Status error:

The system has 104GB of Memory installed in the form of 13 x 8GB DIMMS as reported by the IBM IMM this memory is installed and NORMAL without error:

However it would appear the VMware is only seeing 96GB of the memory...

Checking through the VMware Hardware Status > Memory it appear that the DIMM 24 which is reported by the IBM IMM as present and NORMAL is not being seen by VMware (despite the host have been rebooted a number of times this does not change) (2 Screenshots have been provided as does not all fit on a single screenshot.

As you can see VMware is reporting DIMM slot 24 as "Not Populated".

VMware has flagged a Host Memory Alert, so it would appear that it is seeing some form of problem, but cannot seem to find any further information?

IBM will state that the Hardware is not reporting an error, so they will I am sure accept no responsibility, so does anyone have any ideas as to whether this may be a VMware issue, really stuck between a rock and a hard place here...any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

Try reboot the IMM (note: rebooting the host not reboot the IMM) and/or disable and enable the DIMM slot 24... and after login in vSphere client and Reset Sensors on Hardware Tab.

Hi

Welcome to communities.

I think you need to use 12 or 14 RAM to pair ram

Hi Gracie,

I actually already considered this, but for the fact that we have a 2nd identically configured host that is correctly reporting the full 104GB within VMware.

Sorry, little confused :smileyconfused: are you asking me to reboot the host or the IMM? I have totally power cycled the host several times without effect, and surely this would also reboot the IMM? Also not sure that disable/enable the DIMM slot will have any effect as the actual IBM system is reporting that the DIMM Slot is normal, but I will give it a go, anything is worth a shot!!!!

To disable/enable the DIMM slot do you will need reboot the host and access the UEFI.

About reboot the IMM, you can reboot through UEFI or IMM Web Management (you can do this with host Online), and sometimes only after a IMM reboot is that the Hardware Status on ESXi is updated.
