VMware ESXi Version 5.0.0 Build 1024429 patched with ESXi-5.1.0-799733-standard

Hi,

Please help me understand. The goal is to update to ESXi 5.1.0 to get support for the latest and the greatest (for example Mac OSX 10.8)

VMware ESXi Version 5.0.0 Build 1024429 was patched / updated with ESXi-5.1.0-799733-standard. Should this patched ESXi server be now version 5.1 ? From the VMware vSphere Client, I clicked on About VMWare vSphere and the VMware vSphere Client still shows VMware ESXi Version 5.0.0 Build 1024429. The server was rebooted afterwards, the patch applied successfully. I don't know how to check the version of the ESXi from the console.

portion of the display from the console:

esxcli software profile update -d https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml -p ESXi-5.1.0-799733-standard

Update Result

Message: The update completed successfully, but the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to be effective.

Reboot Required: true

Regards,

cweks

You can see this using the vSphere client, when you select a host or log onto the host directly you can see the version and the build number (which should 5.1).

~ # uptime

15:58:41 up 4 days, 23:54:14, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Apparently the ESXi server was not rebooted. I did not check and did not verify before I posted.

After an ESXi server was rebooted...

~ # uptime

16:13:09 up 00:13:26, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

I was prompted to download and update the vSphere Client.

And the vSphere Client is now Version 5.1.0 Build 786111

And the VMWare ESXi is now Version 5.1.0 Build 799733
